A cable car servicing the Ai-Petri Mountain in the Crimea, was stuck at a height of 150 metres with 75 tourists trapped inside on Sunday evening. The rescue operation lasted around eight hours.
According to the Regional Department of Ukraine’s Civil Service, it took around 7-10 minutes to rescue each person. The operation was complicated by a strong wind and the presence of tall pine trees. Several tourists were given counselling following their rescue.
Hundreds of tourists remain trapped at the top of Ai-Petri, although authorities have deployed buses to return them to the bottom of the mountain. According to Ukraine’s EMERCOM (Emergency Control Ministry), the cable car stopped working due to a technical failure.
