ATHENS, Ohio– Ohio softball redshirt junior pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey has been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-Mideast Region, the organization announced today.
Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) has put together an incredible season, compiling a 1.72 ERA in 46 appearances and starting 29 of those games. With a 24-12 record, Dorsey had 20 complete games and six shutouts while allowing only 61 earned runs in 248.2 innings. In the process, Dorsey struck out 336 batters, which currently leads the nation and set a new program record for strikeouts in a single season. Opponents only hit .164 against her this season. Dorsey was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year, and was named to the All-MAC First Team, MAC All-Tournament Team and earned the MAC East Pitcher of the Week award five times during the regular season.
At the 2016 MAC Tournament, Dorsey added to her legacy, going 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA while pitching 38 innings and striking out 42, She also held opponents to a .168 batting average.
Dorsey was just as dominate in MAC play, sporting a 1.56 ERA and a 9-4 record in 17 appearances and 12 starts. Dorsey has eight complete games and has allowed 20 earned runs in 90 innings of action, while striking out 121 MAC batters.
Dorsey has put together strong appearances against Power Five opponents, including shutting out No. 12 Kentucky, 1-0 in eight innings, while allowing only one hit and striking out 11. Dorsey also one hit Indiana, leading the Bobcats to a 6-0 win, while striking out a career-high 16 batters. Dorsey also one hit NC State, pitching seven innings and striking out 12 in the 2-0 complete game shutout. In the game, Dorsey also recorded her 600th career strikeouts, the only Ohio Bobcat to ever achieve that goal. Dorsey also earned wins against Texas Tech, Marshall, and Virginia.
Dorsey was named NFCA Second Team All-Mideast Region in 2014.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second team and selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
