Anyone remember when HTC used Robert Downey Jr. in their commercials to promote their products? Yeah it didn’t work out too well for HTC. LG is hoping that by having a celebrity endorsement, it’ll help them sell more LG G5’s. Of course, they didn’t just get any celebrity, they got Jason Statham. One of the most popular action stars around. In the commercial, LG promotes the Friends that are part of the LG G5 ecosystem – which went on sale today in a number of countries. It starts out with him popping in a fresh battery into the LG G5. They also show off the Bang & Olufsen DAC module that’s available for the LG G5 (around $199) as well as the Cam Plus which is the camera grip for the LG G5. As well as the LG Rolling bot and their new virtual reality headset the LG 360 VR.
In all honesty, the commercial is actually pretty good. It shows off a number of their products, in fact all of them that were announced with the LG G5, but keeps things pretty fun. You’ll also notice that Jason Statham plays everyone in the commercial. So there’s a whole lot of Jason Statham here in this LG G5 promo.
Earlier this week, LG put out a quick 30-second ad for the LG G5 (which this is the extended version of) in South Korea. Now we have a longer version, a full minute this time, showcasing the device for North America. Which it went on sale in earlier today. We’ll likely be seeing more of Jason Statham with the LG G5 in the next few months as the marketing machine for LG begins to really take shape with the G5 launch.
Today, the LG G5 launched on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon here in the US. It’ll be coming to Canada next week (April 8th). Full retail prices are around $625 depending on the carrier. Which is quite the price tag for LG, and its first modular smartphone. You can head to your local carrier store today and pick up the LG G5 or at least check the phone out.
