LIBERTY TWP. – Michelle Greis begins work Wednesday as Liberty Township’s new finance director.

Selected from a field of 12 applicants, the certified public accountant will earn $75,000 annually in her new role.

“With Liberty Township at a pivotal point in managing the commercial and residential growth and planning for the community’s future, it’s exciting to be able to add such a talented individual to our team,” said Christine Matacic, vice president of the Liberty Township Board of Trustees.

“The board was very impressed with the experience and enthusiasm Michelle brings to the table. Michelle brings invaluable finance experience, great connections and a can-do attitude.”

For the past seven months Greis has been the finance director for the city of Montgomery. Before that she spent three years as Middletown’s finance director.

Greis also worked as a senior auditor for Clark, Schaefer, Hackett & Co; Plattenburg & Associates Inc.; and as a state auditor.

“I’m honored to be selected as Liberty Township’s finance director and look forward to the opportunity to serve the community. There is just so much going on in Liberty and so much potential,” Greis said.

“All the economic development projects that are on the horizon and even in the future looking out years from now – it’s all very exciting and I look forward to playing an active role in the future growth of Liberty Township.”

Greis replaces Carolyn Cifuentes, the township’s finance specialist, who retired at the end of February. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Wright State University.

Since Bitonte was promoted from Liberty Township’s finance director to administrator in 2012, the township has been without a finance director.

Replacing Greis in Montgomery will be Katie Smiddy, currently supervisor of financial service for MetroParks of Butler County. She begins her new job in Montgomery April 20, according to spokeswoman Faith Lynch.
