6 months ago Comments Off on Prince Dead at Age 57: Celebs React on Twitter – E! Online
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” his rep told E! News in a statement. “There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”
Known for hits like “Little Red Corvette,” “Purple Rain,” “Kiss” and “When Doves Cry,” his impact on the music industry was undeniable. “MTV is heartbroken and in utter disbelief at the news that the world has lost Prince Rogers Nelson so suddenly and so before his time,” the music network said in a statement. “Prince was a once-in-a-lifetime artist who transcended every medium and genre he touched and created music with a passion and individuality that inspired multiple generations. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends and millions of fans.”
In a statement, Sheena Easton said, “It is impossible to imagine him not being here. The world of music was forever changed the day he picked up his guitar. His talent was breathtaking, his heart was kind, and all of us have been blessed to have had a glimpse into this sweet and magical soul.”
Patti LaBelle also shared her sentiments, saying, “I am deeply saddened by Prince’s untimely passing. Not only was he a dear friend to me, but an inspiration. His talent, artistry and influence are unparalleled and there will never be another like Prince! The world has suffered a great loss! May he rest in everlasting peace.”
Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, also issued a statement to E! News. “Our Grammy family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of seven-time Grammy Award winner Prince. Today, we remember and celebrate him as one of the most uniquely gifted artists of all time. Never one to conform, he redefined and forever changed our musical landscape,” he said. “Prince was an original who influenced so many, and his legacy will live on forever. We have lost a true innovator and our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, collaborators, and all who have been impacted by his incredible work.”
Greg Harris, CEO and President of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, added, “Prince changed the game. He controlled the stage, he controlled the music and he controlled the media. ‘The Artist’ rewrote the rules, taking the traditions of funk, soul, hard rock and dance to forge his own sound. He was a driven leader who made us bend to his will, created a new path and inspired others to step up, just to keep up.”
