IMG Academy is not like other schools. Its mission is to incubate star athletes during their high school years and prepare them to be dominant college athletes — a goal that entails long, demanding days.

On Friday, the Tennessee football program did something highly unusual. The Volunteers offered scholarships to 20 IMG players spanning three separate recruiting classes, all in one day, according to IMG head coach Kevin Wright.

There are some typos in there, but this is a list of a handful of the best players in the country. It’s not at all surprising that Tennessee or any other program would want many of them, as IMG prospects regularly rack up long lists of prestigious suitors. But 20 at once is really something. Wright calls it “unprecedented,” and he might well be correct.

The list of Tennessee offer recipients includes five-star uber-recruit Dylan Moses, considered by many to be the country’s best 2017 prospect. Others are top defensive end Joshua Kaindoh (who wants to be a doctor), four-star Ohio State cornerback commit Marcus Williamson and four-star Baylor receiver commit Jhamon Ausbon.

Most of these prospects aren’t actually from Florida, where the school is located. It’s common for IMG players to return closer to their hometowns when they actually go off to college.
