CHICAGO (May 26, 2016) – U.S. Soccer has submitted a request to have Monterrey defender Edgar Castillo added to roster for the 2016 Copa America Centenario in place of Timmy Chandler, who has been diagnosed with a right quadriceps strain which he injured while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Per regulations, an injured player may be replaced on the roster up to 24 hours prior to a team’s opening match. The replacement must come from the 40-man preliminary roster submitted April 29 and approved by the tournament medical committee.

Castillo has 18 career caps and has started the last two World Cup qualifiers. He would report to camp following the Liga MX finals. Monterrey played the first leg Thursday night against Pachuca. The second leg is scheduled for Sunday evening.

The U.S. completes a trio of Copa America Centenario warm-up matches when they host Bolivia on May 28 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas (7 p.m. CT; FS1 and Univision networks) [TICKETS].
