Warm weather has meant an early start to mosquito season in the Fox Valley.

“What’s unique about this Memorial Day weekend are the warmer, true summer temperatures. We usually do not experience this climate until the middle or late June which is ideal for (mosquito) hatching,” said George Balis, entomologist and regional manager of St. Charles-based Clarke Mosquito Control.

Oswego is among the Fox River towns that has begun its annual efforts to minimize the mosquito population and help reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

The village contracted with Clarke Mosquito Control to fight the mosquitoes. Clarke has mapped mosquito breeding sites and has begun treating those sites to prevent mosquito eggs from hatching, said Michele Brown, Oswego community relations manager.
