If we had 21-year-old Eva Gutowski telling us how to survive high school, we may have made it out a little less traumatized. This charming, disarming YouTube star has figured out the modern-day secret to winning friends and influencing people: Be authentic behind that Snapchat filter. Whether she’s coaching teens on enduring that terrifying first day of school (or daily car rides with Mom),Gutowski isn’t afraid to be silly in front of the ten million—yes, ten million—fans following her every move on social media. Now, with a scripted series and an international tour under her belt, the MyLifeAsEva machine isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Following a recent YouTube tour of Australia, Gutowski shared some more tips—this time on packing, beating jet lag, and sleeping on a plane. Exclamation marks very much included.
Do you have a “travel uniform”? What is it? Leggings, fuzzy socks, sandals, a big hoodie, and a face mask.
Favorite airline? JetBlue.
Do you check bags, or carry-on only? I try to carry on as much as possible.
When you’re on the go, do you Kindle, iPad, or go old-school with actual books or magazines? I usually just use my laptop and edit videos!
What’s your secret to beating jet lag? No secret! But it does help to have someone with you to wake you up so you don’t oversleep!
Tips for getting sleep on the plane? Don’t sleep the night before if you have an early flight. Also, fuzzy socks and a good pillow help a lot!
Do you talk to your seatmates on a flight? I usually keep to myself unless they start up a conversation first.
What’s the one thing you never leave home without? My camera!
Favorite hotel in the world? I love the Shore at Katathani in Thailand! They have the best pool.
What’s the one thing a great hotelmust have? They definitely must have fast Wi-Fi.
To room service, or not to room service? If you do, what’s your go-to order? Room service always! Fried calamari, mac and cheese, and of course, get the cake!
Go-to cocktail? Champagne or piña colada.
Go-to coffee order? Hot latte with caramel.
What would be in the mini-bar of your dreams? Lemonade, fruit, and smoothies that never get watered down.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever eaten while traveling? I ate bugs while I was in Thailand.
What’s the best souvenir you’ve ever picked up on the road? In Germany I got confetti sprayed on me and I kept the confetti to take home as a memory!
What’s the secret to being a traveler rather than a tourist? Find locals to befriend and they can show you around day by day!
Where are you headed next? I am planning a trip to Hawaii next month to go to the North Shore and hang out with my best friends!
